Brett Favre retires, the Brewers pickup another starter and Bucks, Marquette and Wisconsin basketball action

By badgerbratwurstintexas

Brett Favre has decided to retire again and we’ll see if this time it really happens for good. A lot of people including myself think he will stay retired this time. After one year with the Jets, sixteen years with the Packers and his rookie year in 1991 remember was with the Atlanta Falcons when he was still relatively unknown out of Southern Mississippi.

The word is likely that Favre will stay retired this time because he has injuries due to wear and tear of 169 straight starts and being 39 years of age. Also I think the loss in the NFC Championship in 2007 to the Giants and his departure from Green Bay afterward plus his attempt to start somewhere else with the Jets, and the failure they had down the stretch there may have finally gotten Favre to realize that he couldn’t chase the Holy Grail of the NFL, the Vince Lombardi Trophy anymore and it was finally time for him to hang it up for good.

After all he’s won a Super Bowl with Green Bay and played in two and he has all the major passing records and is a first ballot Hall of Famer in five years. So that’s about it as he pursues new avenues in life after playing football.

In other Wisconsin sports news, the Brewers signed a new starting pitcher Branden Looper to a two year contract after Looper was released by the Cardinals who he played for previously.  The Bucks continue to remain in eighth place in the Eastern Conference which would make them eligible for the playoffs at the end of the season. The NBA season reaches the All Star break this weekend.

Marquette has lost two in a row in the Big East to South Florida and Villanova since my last writing and will continue to battle for Big East and NCAA positioning down the stretch the rest of the season. Wisconsin is trying to fight back into the NCAA picture with wins over Illinois, Penn State and Iowa after losing six in a row in the Big Ten before that. So we’ll see what happens as we head towards March.

So in conclusion I hope that #4, Brett Favre has found peace with himself as he possibly heads to the next step of his life after retirement from football. He may not have gone out as a winner on the field,  but he has gone out as a champion not only for the way he has performed on the field in a Hall Of Fame Career, but also for the way he has conducted and turned around his life as a person and a sports hero. With all the talk of steroids, drugs and other off field problems in sports, it’s been nice to have a good but not perfect kind of player like Brett Favre who just showed up for work every week and did it the right way. Good luck Brett and we’ll miss you on the field. Best wishes and take care. badgerbratwurst

I think Brett finally realized it is time . I believe hei s really doing it this time . I heard he had turned in his retirement papers. I know he has been one of the best in Green Bay . He has taken us, all on a ride we will never forget. I will probably not see one as exciteing as he ever again. The joys , the excitement, the sorrow and the never ending nail biteing as he led the team down the field in those last 2 minutes of the game.

Take Care Brett and good luck in what ever you do !!!!!!!!!

ONE EXCITED FAN OF YOUR PAST !!
